Westside Market – Wrapping & Handling Guidelines
Westside Market – Wrapping & Handling Guidelines
To ensure a safe and professional experience for all our customers and vendors, Westside Market provides the following guidelines for wrapping and handling furniture, art, and collectibles:
🪑 Furniture & Large Items
-
Our staff will assist in light wrapping of furniture with basic materials (plastic wrap or pads) when available.
-
We strongly recommend customers bring additional moving blankets, padding, or protective materials for fragile or valuable items.
-
Store staff do not disassemble furniture. Please make arrangements in advance if disassembly is needed.
🎨 Art & Collectibles
-
Small-to-medium-sized framed art or mirrors may be wrapped with bubble wrap or paper when available.
-
For fragile, antique, or high-value items, customers are advised to bring specialized packing materials if extra care is required.
-
We recommend transporting these items in personal vehicles when possible to ensure safety.
🚛 Third-Party Pickup & Delivery Services
-
Items being picked up by third-party delivery companies must be wrapped by those companies.
-
Westside Market staff will not wrap, pad, or load items on behalf of third-party services.
- The delivery company with sign the pick up invoice indicating the condition of the item before they transport it.
-
Customers should communicate directly with their delivery provider regarding protective materials and safe handling.
💡 Chandeliers & Light Fixtures
-
Chandeliers or any hardwired electrical fixtures will not be removed, wrapped, or packed by Westside Market staff.
-
Customers must arrange for their own licensed electrician to:
-
Safely remove the fixture
-
Pack and protect it for transport
-
Coordinate appropriate transportation

1. Purpose & Objectives

✅ Prevent breakage, scratches, and damage during transport.
✅ Enhance customer satisfaction by providing a professional and secure packaging experience.
✅ Maintain consistency in wrapping procedures across all store locations.
By following this Material Wrapping Plan, we ensure that all items leave the store in excellent condition, reinforcing Westside Market’s commitment to quality and customer care.
2. Approved Wrapping Materials & Usage
📌 Wrapping Guidelines by Item Type
Item Type | Approved Wrapping Material | Additional Instructions |
---|---|---|
Glass Objects & Extremely Fragile Items | Newsprint Paper | Always double-wrap for added protection. |
Big Art Frames & Large Paintings | Brown Paper Roll | Wrap the entire artwork for full coverage. |
Metal, Plastic, & Wood Items | Bubble Wrap | Use one or more layers, depending on fragility. |
Jewelry | Jewelry Mesh Bags | Prevents scratching & tangling. |
Ceramics & Porcelain | Newsprint Paper & Bubble Wrap | Use both materials for extra safety. |
Mirrors & Glass Tabletops | Cardboard Corner Protectors & Bubble Wrap | Secure with tape to keep the protection in place. |
🚨 If unsure whether an item needs additional wrapping, always opt for an extra layer!
3. Wrapping & Packing Procedures
✅ Step 1: Assess the Item
🔹 Identify fragility and material type (glass, wood, metal, etc.).
🔹 Choose the appropriate approved wrapping material from the chart above.
🔹 For multi-piece items, wrap each piece separately before bundling.
✅ Step 2: Wrap the Item Securely
🔹 Glass & Fragile Items: Wrap completely with newsprint (double layer) and bubble wrap if needed.
🔹 Artwork & Large Frames: Cover the entire piece with brown paper roll and secure it with tape.
🔹 Jewelry: Place each item inside a jewelry mesh bag to prevent tangling or damage.
🔹 Bulky or Odd-Shaped Items: Use extra bubble wrap or cushioning to prevent movement inside the bag.
✅ Step 3: Use Westside Market Craft Bags (If Applicable)
🔹 If the item fits in a Westside Market bag, place it inside securely.
🔹 Ensure handles are strong enough to carry the weight of the item.
🔹 If needed, reinforce the bag with additional wrapping inside.
✅ Step 4: Final Check Before Handover
🔹 Inspect the package to ensure it is securely wrapped and protected.
🔹 If necessary, add an extra layer of paper or bubble wrap.
🔹 Ask a manager or experienced team member for approval if uncertain.
🔹 Gently place the packaged item in the customer’s hands or vehicle.
4. Handling Large or Oversized Items
📌 When an item is too large to be wrapped or bagged:
✅ Offer assistance in safely placing it in the customer's vehicle.
✅ If needed, store the item in the warehouse for scheduled pickup.
✅ Ensure warehouse staff is aware of the item and pickup details.
🚨 Do not force oversized items into bags or attempt to wrap them improperly! If in doubt, consult a manager.
5. Special Wrapping Considerations
📌 Multiple Fragile Items in One Purchase
✅ Wrap each item separately before placing them together in a bag.
✅ Use padding or tissue paper between items to prevent impact damage.
📌 Customer-Provided Packaging Requests
✅ Some customers may bring their own bags or containers.
✅ Always offer the appropriate protective wrapping first before placing in customer-provided packaging.
📌 Custom Wrapping for Gifts (If Available)
✅ If a customer requests gift wrapping, use the appropriate materials.
✅ Ensure pricing stickers are removed or covered before wrapping.
6. Employee Responsibilities & Best Practices
📌 Training & Compliance
✅ All employees handling merchandise must be trained on proper wrapping techniques.
✅ Managers must monitor wrapping practices to ensure consistency and quality.
✅ Employees should regularly restock wrapping materials at the checkout area.
📌 Customer Engagement & Service
✅ While wrapping, engage with the customer and assure them their item is protected.
✅ If an item is especially fragile, communicate handling precautions to the customer.
✅ Ask customers if they need additional protection before finalizing the wrapping.
📌 Reporting & Replenishment of Materials
✅ If wrapping supplies are low or depleted, notify the MOD (Manager on Duty) immediately.
✅ Ensure the wrapping station is clean, stocked, and organized at all times.
7. Compliance & Accountability
📌 Expectations for All Employees:
✅ Follow the approved wrapping materials and procedures for all transactions.
✅ Ensure customer purchases are secure and protected before leaving the store.
✅ Report any packaging concerns (e.g., shortage of materials, damaged supplies) to management.
✅ Never rush wrapping—prioritize quality and care over speed.
📌 Failure to follow these procedures may result in:
❌ Customer complaints due to damaged items.
❌ Increased returns and refunds.
❌ Additional costs due to product replacements.
